Bill Hargiss - Innovative Lightweight
Football Shoe, 1910
The most interesting
innovation that has been rarely mentioned concerns Hargiss' improvement of the football
shoe. Up to 1910, football players wore very heavy boots. Hargiss wanted his backfield
faster, so he took regulation baseball shoes to the shoemaker and had football cleats
nailed on: 3 on the sole and two on the heel.
