Best Emporia Team Ever To Meet
After 50 Years
By The Star's Own Service, 1976

Emporia, Kan.—It's been 50 years since Emporia Kansas State College produced its
only undefeated, untied football team. That team, its coach and those seven victories
will be honored at a football reunion at homecoming this weekend.
The coach of 1926 Kansas State Teachers College Yellowjackets,
H. W. (Bill) Hargiss, and 12 team members will be honored at a dinner Friday, at
the K-Club-Hornet Club breakfast Saturday and later in the day at half-time in the
football game between Emporia State and Fort Hays State College.
During the 1926 season, the Yellowjackets scored 149 points
and their opponents scored only 3, as Emporia easily grabbed the Kansas Conference
championship. Of the 30 players on the 1926 team, 13 are known to be living...
