Photos and Letter from Rome
Rome, Italy
Tuesday afternoon
July 3
Dearest Genevieve:
I must apologize for forgetting your birthday. That seems
to be a habit--a very bad one--forgetting important dates. Was thinking of all of
you last night while on plane and remembered the date and when you came to us. It
was a stormy night--so was last night. Well I was really in the air about it and
too late to do anything.
Left Paris this morning at 1:35--was raining and stormy.
The pilot took us well above the storm about ten or twelve thousand feet. It was
terribly cold so couldn't sleep. Arrived here at seven o'clock, had a bite for breakfast
then slept a few hours. Am writing now since have a meeting tonight with some big
brass.
It rained the last four days while in Paris so didn't enjoy
getting around. Am glad to be back here--surely do like this Italian climate. It
seems a little like home to get back to work.
I had a whole stack of letters--three from mother, one
from Shirley with her recital program, two from Clarke, letters from Carnie Smith,
Red Brown, and several from boys who had been here in our schools. Just wonder when
I shall find time to answer them all.
Tomorrow is the 4th of July. There is to be a big celebration
here--holiday for army personnel with big fireworks in the evening. They have been
practicing sending up rockets this afternoon. I shall be quite busy all day s o
do not plan to celebrate. I can only wish that I could be home with all of you.
This is all but shall write again soon.
Love and kisses to all
Dad
