Tom Butcher Letter
May 8, 1970
Mr. H.
W. Hargiss
2503 Missouri
Lawrence, Kansas
Dear Coach:
The pall of gloom that settled
over the Butcher household after the "Normal" got licked by the "College" in the
fail of 1913, after an unsuccessful football season, is one of my earliest impressions
of Emporia. And the satisfaction of my father and the rest of us when Bill
Hargiss took over and began winning again was wonderful.
Over the years, to all of
the Butcher family, the name Hargiss has meant the finest in football tradition,
and Freda, too, remembers you as the winning coach of the early 1920's when she
was here in school.
To my father your accomplishments
were a source of deep satisfaction, and to all of us you have always been an important
part of our world. It is with genuine pleasure that we look to having some small
part in the honors planned for Bill Hargiss Day.
Most sincerely,
T. P. Butcher, M. D.
