To Coach Hargiss:

Greetings and so glad to know of what the boys are doing for you and so sorry that I cannot be there to be a part of it all and to see you again. On the wall of my den for many years there hangs a long, narrow picture of the old K.S.N. Football squad of 1916 with Coach Hargiss standing at each end of the long line with the old Gym. in the background---a great picture for me. This has been a topic of conversation to sons, grandsons and many friends over the years. I coached football for five years in a High School in Washington state and played with some of the boys in some games.

As I study the picture on the wall I sometimes wonder how that team would stack up against the teams of today --- well --- well maybe I had better not go into that. Last June I and my last last little K.S.T.C Girl Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with being married for a second time with our three children and nine grandchildren ---four of these last are in college--one of them in Annapolis Naval Academy and one on a Pre-Medical Scholarship at Stanford.

My wife and I are both well and going strong. I manage to keen busy with my garden, coin and pipe collections. We have gone on tours from Europe to Hawaii and Mexico.

And now as old age is settling upon us we stay more at home and reminisce over over the old days. You will never know how much I owe to you and Mr. Phipps for the wonderful influence you both had on my life. You took a Western Kansas green, country cowboy and gave me a polish and ambition that started me on the road to a good citizen and a good life. THANKS

I know that you have done the same for many others and that you have made a wonderful record as a coach and a man. When you come to California we will be so glad and happy to have you come for a visit with us. This is a strong and honest invitation.

May the following years be good to you and your happiness. With best wishes.

Sincerely,

R. C. (Shorty) Meairs
