Oscar Stauffer Letter
March 30, 1970
Dear Bill--
The spontaneous eruption of esteem, goodwill and affection for you, Bill, is
a marvelous tribute. And of course it's most deserving.
You have had a wonderful life and the countless friends you've made along the
way bespeaks louder than any words of the good life you have lived.
I shouldn't use past tense because there's still a lot of happy road to be
traveled in the miles ahead.
You will be interested to know that
yesterday I brought
Cornelia home from the Stormont-Vail hospital where she had been for three weeks
after being under the surgeon's knife for an operation. She is feeling fine but
of course building back to normal takes time. I told her I was writing you and
she said to be sure and give Bill her best.
As the sun sets one day after another, Bill, you,
Cornelia, myself and many of the others of our generation are not too far off
when we will come to the end of the road. And as I contemplate the future I hope
we all may enjoy our worldly stay and go over the big hill like McCutcheon drew
his cartoon of Teddy Roosevelt waving his hat exuberant and enjoying life to the
last.
May God grant you good health and good living always is the wish of Cornelia
and myself.
Sincerely,
Oscar S. Stauffer
