Mr. H. W. Hargiss
Topeka, Kansas

Dear "Bill":

I deeply regret that I cannot be present on this occasion to join with the host of friends and former athletes who have assembled in your honor.

Those of us who were privileged to be members of your teams in the mid-twenties had the opportunity of participating in intercollegiate athletics during a period when athletics occupied a unique position on college campuses.

Our teams at Emporia were respected by the student body, our opponents and the citizens of Emporia. Certainly this respect was due in large measure to your great qualities of leadership and inspiration - - the accomplishments of your teams provided ample evidence of your genius as a coach.

Individual triumphs are soon blurred by the passage of years but memories of the close personal relationships of those days have retained their clarity for a lifetime.

To a Coaches' Coach; an inspiration to those who performed for you; and most fondly of all - - to the "Bald Eagle of Emporia" I extend every wish for your continued good health and happiness.

Sincerely,

Harold S. Hunt
