Dear Bill:

I was very pleased to hear there would be a dinner held in your honor later this month. At this writing, I am not sure I will be able to attend - however, if I am not present, my heart will be as I can never forget the warm friendship of my school chums, team-mates and coaches.

And as to the coaches, you have always ranked at the top with me. I'll never forget when I first entered K. U. in the fall of 1930. I was a green-horn and away from home the first time. You were directing football practice from a high platform about 20 feet above the ground. I had read and heard of the big names at K. U. such as Bill Hargiss, Bausch Brothers, Shaake, Beach, etc. and now I was amongst them. And I'll never forget at the half-time of the Nebraska game in 1931, when you tapped me on the head as said, "Zonie, you're not mad. Get, that Slavic blood boiling. Now, dam-it, get mad like you're supposed to." I always felt the training I got under your tutelage helped me considerably in my later years.

For your information, I live at 7530 Lamar Avenue, Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Have been married 23 years to a most wonderful woman named Naomi. We have no children, but we inherited a little black poodle a year ago named "Mr. K".

I have been in the kitchen business for 23 years as factory rep, distributor salesman and in the retail end. At present, I own a company called Creative Kitchens and we sell the finest of cabinetry and appliances - primarily to the retail trade.

I see "Speed" Atkinson occasionally as we do some FHA paper work with his Westport Bank. Also, I see Neil Thompson once in a while and chat about old times.

Well, Bill, if I miss the dinner, I'll try to see you sometime in Lawrence as I go thru there occasionally. Best wishes to you for many more years of happiness and good life.

Sincerely,

Zonie Kvaternik
